Task

Measure the voltage and the current and determine the power of a solar cell with different activeareas! What relation is there between the area and these three measured values?

Preparation

Note: For reasons of simplicity, only short-circuit currents(Isc) and open-circuit voltages (Voc) are measured in this experiment. These cannot be measured simultaneously; in order to measure the open-circuit voltage the circuit must be broken.

Execution

  1. . Set up the circuit according to the diagram and put the lighting module (7,5V) on the solar cell.
  2. . Measure the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current successively!
  3. . Repeat this measurement with 1/4, half and 3/4 of the solar cell covered!
  4. Record the measured data in a table!

How to use

  1. click to add equipments from the Left Pane
  2. click and drag dotted point endpoint to create connections

Result

Exercises

  1. Calculate the respective powers P of the solar cell according to the measurement!
  2. Plot the results in a diagram (x-axes: degree of cover (0, 1/4, 1/2, 1); y-axes: P, I and V)!
  3. Which relation can be found between the voltage and the area as well as the current and the area of the solar cell?
  4. How can that be explained?
  5. Which relation between the area and the power of a solar cell can be concluded?
